What Can Be Restored?
More belongings can be saved than most people expect. The deciding factors are the material, the type of damage and how quickly cleaning starts.
Usually restorable
Dishes, glass, crystal and metal; most furniture; electronics exposed to smoke; most clothing and linens; framed art and photographs; many documents and books.
Often non-restorable
Items that are burned, melted or heat-damaged; mattresses and porous items soaked with sewage; open food, cosmetics and medication exposed to smoke or water.
Anything that cannot be saved is photographed and documented for your claim. See non-restorable items explained and what can and can’t be saved after smoke damage.
FAQ – Contents Cleaning and Restoration
Is it cheaper to clean belongings than replace them?
Usually, for items that can be restored. Hard goods, electronics and many textiles cost less to clean than to replace, and restoring keeps things you cannot buy again.
Do you clean on site or at your facility?
Both. Where possible we clean and deodorize at your property; items that need specialized equipment go to our facility in northeast Calgary.
How long does contents cleaning take?
It depends on the volume and the damage. Many items are cleaned within a few weeks, then stored until your property is ready. See how long contents restoration takes.
Can you remove smoke odour from belongings?
Yes. Soot is cleaned first, then odour is treated with hydroxyl, ozone or fogging. See smoke odour removal.
Is contents cleaning covered by insurance?
When the loss is covered, cleaning and restoring your belongings is usually part of the contents portion of the claim, apart from your deductible.
