Can Electronics Be Saved After Fire, Smoke or Water Damage?
Very often, yes. The damage that ruins electronics after a loss is rarely the flames or the water itself. It is what gets left behind: soot and smoke residue are acidic and conductive, and moisture starts corrosion on circuit boards and connectors. If those contaminants are removed and the device is properly dried before corrosion sets in, many items can be returned to service, usually at a fraction of the cost of replacement.
Do not plug in or power on a device that has been exposed to smoke, soot or water. Powering up a contaminated device is what causes most of the permanent damage. Set it aside and let our team assess it.
We restore basically anything with a power source or a cord, including:
Televisions, stereo equipment and game consoles
Computers, laptops, routers and scanners
Small and large household appliances
Oscilloscopes, electrical meters and test equipment
Industrial and commercial electronics

When Is a Device Not Worth Restoring?
Some items are better claimed than cleaned. Those are documented on the non-restorable list in your inventory so you and your insurer have a clear record.

Computer and Electronics Disinfection
Electronics that have been through a sewer backup, flood water, mould or a home where someone was ill need disinfecting as well as cleaning. Keyboards, phones, tablets, remotes and other high-touch devices can carry bacteria and other contaminants long after they look clean.
We clean and disinfect computers and electronics with methods suited to each device, without soaking the components, so they come back clean and safe to handle. Rooms can also be treated with our disinfection fogging services.
We clean and disinfect:
Computers, laptops and keyboards
Phones, tablets and remotes
Gaming consoles and controllers
Printers and office equipment
Small appliances and personal devices
FAQ – Electronics Restoration in Calgary
Can electronics be restored after a house fire?
Often, yes. If a device was exposed to smoke and soot but not direct heat, the contaminants can be removed and the device dried and deodorized. Devices with melted or burned components are usually documented as non-restorable.
Can water damaged electronics be saved?
Many can, if they are not powered on while wet and are cleaned and dried quickly, before corrosion sets in. The sooner they reach us, the better the odds.
Should I turn on a device to see if it still works?
No. Do not plug in or power on anything that has been exposed to smoke, soot or water. Powering up a contaminated device is what causes most permanent damage.
How do you dry electronics?
After cleaning, items are placed in our Electronic Drying Chamber, which dries and deodorizes electronics using a low-temperature, high-volume updraft drying design.
Is electronics restoration cheaper than replacement?
Usually. Restoring appliances and electronic devices is typically a fraction of the cost of replacement, which is why insurers generally prefer it where the device can be saved.
Do you restore commercial and industrial electronics?
Yes. We restore sensitive electronics for homes and businesses, including test equipment such as oscilloscopes and electrical meters, and industrial electronics.
Do you disinfect computers and electronics?
Yes. Computers, phones, keyboards and other devices exposed to sewage, flood water, mould or illness are cleaned and disinfected with methods suited to each device, without soaking the components.
