Upholstered Furniture Cleaning in Calgary
Cleaning and deodorizing for sofas, chairs, ottomans, headboards and cushions damaged by smoke, soot, water or odour, on site or at our facility.
Upholstered furniture is fabric, foam and wood in one piece, so smoke and water damage go deeper than the surface. The right cleaning saves most of it.
Smoke odour settles into fabric and foam, soot stains light upholstery, and water can stain, shrink or grow mould in padding within days. Household cleaners and steam can set stains or spread water rings if the fabric is not suited to them.
Calgary Contents cleans upholstered furniture as part of your contents restoration: each piece is assessed, cleaned to suit its fabric, deodorized and dried properly before it comes back.
Furniture we clean:
Sofas, sectionals and loveseats

Ottomans and footstools

Cleaning Upholstery After Smoke and Water
Smoke and soot: dry soot is lifted off the fabric before any liquid touches it, then the piece is cleaned according to its cleaning code and deodorized. Water: clean-water damage is cleaned and dried quickly to stop mildew; furniture soaked with contaminated water is assessed for safety.
Our guide to furniture restoration after water or fire damage explains how wood, upholstery and leather are restored.
We assess each piece for:
Fabric type and cleaning code
How deep smoke or water reached
Foam and padding condition
Frame and wood damage
Odour in the cushions
How Our Upholstery Cleaning Works
- Assessment. We check the fabric, cleaning code, padding and frame.
- Dry soil and soot removal. Soot and loose soil are removed with HEPA vacuuming and dry sponges.
- Cleaning. The fabric is cleaned with the method its code allows, on site or at our facility.
- Drying. Pieces are dried thoroughly so padding does not mildew.
- Deodorizing. Smoke or musty odour is treated with hydroxyl or fogging.
- Return. Furniture comes back clean and fresh, ready to use.
Restore or Replace Your Furniture?
Good-quality and sentimental pieces are usually worth cleaning, especially when the frame is solid and the damage is mostly smoke residue or clean water. Inexpensive furniture with heavy odour in the foam, or pieces soaked with sewage, may cost more to restore than to replace. We give you an honest assessment and document anything that cannot be saved for your claim. See contents restoration vs. replacement.
Honest restore-or-replace advice
Cleaning matched to the fabric code
Odour treated, not masked
On-site cleaning where possible
Non-restorables documented for your claim

FAQ – Upholstery Cleaning
Can a smoke-damaged couch be saved?
Often, yes. Soot is removed from the fabric, the piece is cleaned according to its cleaning code and the odour is treated. Odour deep in the foam may need extra treatment. See smoke odour removal.
Can upholstered furniture be saved after a flood?
After clean water, many pieces can be cleaned and dried if they are dealt with quickly. Furniture soaked with sewage or flood water usually cannot be made safe and is documented for replacement.
Do you clean leather furniture?
Yes. Leather is cleaned and conditioned with methods made for leather, not water-based upholstery cleaning.
Do you clean furniture on site?
Where possible, yes. Some pieces are cleaned at your property; others come to our facility for deeper cleaning and odour treatment.
What do upholstery cleaning codes mean?
The tag under a cushion tells you which cleaners are safe: W for water-based, S for solvent, WS for either, and X for vacuuming only. We check the code before choosing a method.
