Contents Moving & Storage Services in Cochrane
Cochrane has nearly doubled in a decade and is now home to about 39,000 people, spread from the river flats along the Bow to the hillside communities climbing toward the Big Hill. That mix of valley and slope shapes every move we plan here. When a flood, a fire, a smoke event or a major repair means your home has to be emptied, Calgary Contents packs, documents, trucks and stores your belongings, then returns them once the property is ready.
Our crews run out Highway 1A from northeast Calgary on a scheduled basis, and each Cochrane job is planned around the town itself — steep driveways in Sunset Ridge and Heritage Hills, tight lanes downtown, river-valley homes in Riverview and Bow Meadows, and fast-growing streets in Heartland, Fireside and Rivercrest. Your adjuster gets a barcoded inventory; you get your belongings back in the right rooms.
What Brings Cochrane Families to a Pack-Out
Water is the most common reason, and in Cochrane it arrives two ways. Homes close to the Bow River and Jumpingpound Creek carry an overland flooding risk in a high-runoff spring, while houses cut into the hillsides can channel melt water and heavy rain straight toward lower-level walkouts. Either way, a finished basement full of furniture has to be cleared before drying and demolition can start.
Smoke is the other. Summer wildfire smoke drifting in from the mountains settles into upholstery, bedding and closets, and a garage or chimney fire in a closely built new subdivision can push soot into the homes next door as well. In both cases the belongings need to come out, get cleaned and wait somewhere clean while the house itself is treated.
Cochrane property owners usually call us after:
Overland flooding or seepage in river-valley and walkout basements
Wildfire smoke drawn indoors during summer smoke events
Fires in attached garages, kitchens or wood-burning fireplaces
Wind storms that strip shingles, siding and soffits
Frozen and split water lines in homes left empty over winter
Major renovations, suite development or listing a home for sale
Moving Foothills Homes, Gear and Heirlooms
Cochrane homes tend to hold more than furniture. Garages and storage rooms are stacked with bikes, skis, climbing gear, camping equipment and fly-fishing kits, and long-time families in Glenbow and the older downtown streets often keep western art, heritage furniture and generations of photographs. Each category is packed with the right materials and photographed so its condition is on record before it leaves the property.
Access matters as much as packing. Before moving day we check grades, turning room and parking for our trucks, because a steep, icy driveway in February is a different job from a flat lot in July. Where a full-size truck cannot get close, we plan the carry route and the crew size so nothing is rushed down a slope.
Our Cochrane moving and storage services include:
Pre-move access check for steep, narrow or snow-covered driveways
Specialty packing for bikes, skis and outdoor equipment
Crating for western art, heritage pieces and framed photographs
Climate-controlled vault storage with a barcoded item log
Delivery of essentials to a temporary rental while repairs run
How We Run a Cochrane Pack-Out and Return
The process is the same whether the house backs onto the river or sits at the top of the hill — five steps, fully documented:
Step 1: Site Visit and Access Plan
A project lead tours the property, identifies what is damaged and what can stay, and maps the route from your front door to the truck, including slopes, stairs and winter footing. You receive a written scope before any packing begins.
Step 2: Every Item Logged Where It Sits
Items are photographed in place, given a barcode and linked to the room they came from. You, your adjuster and our warehouse team all work from one shared record for the whole project.
Step 3: Careful Packing and an Organised Load
Packers wrap furniture, box fragile pieces in double-walled cartons and crate glass, mirrors and art. Loads are organised room by room so the return trip is just as orderly as the pack-out.
Step 4: Stable Storage Back in Calgary
Your contents travel to our northeast Calgary facility and into private vaults with steady temperature and humidity — far kinder to wood, leather, instruments and electronics than a detached garage or sea-can through a Cochrane winter.
Step 5: Return, Reassembly and Clean-Up
Once the house is repaired we schedule delivery on a date that works for you, put furniture back together, set each room up again and take every bit of packing material away with us.
Why Cochrane Trusts Calgary Contents with Its Belongings
A restoration move asks more of a crew than a regular relocation. Items have to be documented for a claim, some need cleaning or deodorising before they are stored, and the return date depends on contractors and inspections. We handle all of it with our own employees and our own facility, which is why Cochrane homeowners, property managers and adjusters keep calling us back.

Cochrane Moving & Storage — Your Questions Answered
Is Cochrane outside your regular service area?
No. Cochrane is part of our regular service area, and the drive out Highway 1A from our northeast Calgary facility is typically under an hour. Emergency assessments can often happen the same day, with the packing crew scheduled as soon as your contractor has a start date.
Our driveway is steep and icy in winter. Can you still move us?
Yes. We look at the grade, turning space and footing during the site visit and plan around them — adjusting crew size, carry routes and timing so nothing is hurried down an icy slope. If an area needs sanding or clearing first, we will tell you before moving day.
Can you store bikes, skis and outdoor gear?
Yes. Outdoor equipment is cleaned of dirt or residue, wrapped and logged like everything else. Bikes and skis are protected against scuffs and stored in the position that suits them, and anything smoke-affected can be cleaned before it goes into the vault.
What happens to our contents after river or overland flooding?
We move fast to get belongings out of the wet area, separate items that can be dried and cleaned from those that cannot, and document everything for your claim. Salvageable items can be cleaned in-house before storage, so they come back ready to use rather than simply dry.
We have to live in a rental during repairs. Can you bring some things there?
Yes. We can pull specific items out of storage — beds, kitchen essentials, work equipment, children’s belongings — deliver them to your temporary rental, and collect them again when your home is ready. Your inventory is updated with every move so nothing goes missing.
